2010-11 AEA Goals
The by-laws have been
revised. The MTA will review our changes and then the association
can vote on the revisions in our first general meeting. In addition,
communication among members needs to improve. Lastly, let’s work
together for a great contract!

Notes from Donna:
I hope your summer has been
relaxing and enjoyable! We have a new principal and a Grade 2
teacher at the Butler School along with a
new physics teacher at the high school. There will be some
challenges to face this year with the election of a governor.
The MTA is supporting Governor Deval Patrick since he has been
very receptive to educators and the MTA.

In addition, we need to join
forces to vote NO on Question 3 in November, which relates to
slashing the sales tax from 6.25 percent to 3 percent.
This will cost the state $2.5 billion a year, which will hurt
funding for public education. We should also have an interesting
year with negotiations
starting up again.
Best wishes for a great
school year!
Your president,
Donna Conrad

Race to the Top
MTA President Paul Toner on Race to the Top approval
"I am extremely proud of the collaboration that took place
during the planning stages for Massachusetts’ second-round Race to
the Top application. This winning application was carefully
crafted based on the ideas and feedback offered by key
stakeholders in our public schools. Our proposal is the result of
a true partnership that includes the MTA and other major education
groups and takes into account the insights, expertise and
experience of our public school teachers. "
